In the summer of 2004 the former telecommunication giant MCIWorld Com emerged from a 21 month process that ended with thelargest bankruptcy filing in U.S. history. The restructuredcompany is now called MCI. It has a very strong focus onresidential and long distance services. Less attention if paidto its formerly popular cellular phone business. Before the bankruptcy MCI purchased their cellular products andservices from Verizon and AT&T and sold them to consumersthrough a few MCI retailers and independent dealers. At the timeMCI plans were very similar to those being offered byAT&T and Verizon. Even the names of MCI's plans were onlyslightly different. Users of MCI plans often hadproblems with being charged for roaming or long distance, whenthey were not roaming or were dialing from a local area. Therewere also customer service and other billing problems. Maybe this is why MCI seems to be moving away from cell phoneservices and placing its emphasis on residential and longdistance plans. However there are rumors of a merger with astrong cellular provider such as Sprint.
